How to Destroy Soccer In the U.S.A

Although this is a football comedy blog I have to post this piece of Drivel from America.

This is why the game has zero credibility in the USA & why it is imposable for the game to succeed stateside.
This is supposed to be a humorous segment on the chances of the USA getting to host the world cup (although they seem ignorant of the fact that they already hosted it before).
It is so unfunny that it is laughable - but we are not laughing at the content but rather at the Idiots who are pretending that they know what they are talking about.

They are a bunch of bloody clueless morons & damaging to the prospects of the game ever becoming a success in the USA, & that is a real shame.

Every time the MLS or the game of Association Football in North America in general gets a little bit of credibility in the world you get arseholes like this who think they are "oh so funny" & send the game in that region back to ridicule city.

This writer for one feels sorry for those serious U.S fans who try so hard to build the game up in the united states but have to contend week in & week out with prats like these.

In my book they are about as welcome as a fart in a space suit & U.S fans - You have my utmost sympathy.

  1. Isn't that like Fixed Noise? They're claiming to be "fair and balanced" and they are not, look at their "tools", like Glenn beck, Mr. Bill Orally and Sean Inanity. They're all loud, badly opinionated and often wrong.

  2. That entire segment is dripping in sarcasm. I wouldn't take it too seriously.

  3. I think that the major point here is how it appears to the world at large - & the answer is plain for all to see, & i for one think it does soccer is America a huge disservice

  4. I think most Americans watching this would pick up on the sarcasm and not think anything about it. I personally don't think it does that much damage to the way Americans hold the game, by which I mean I don't think people are going to start freaking out because they think soccer players are terrorists...

  5. Can you not see the disdain that they are treating the game with in The USA Bob.
I for one would love the Game to succeed in America but when you come up against bullshit like this then how can it ever succeed?

It's the same as when we hear American commentators trying to call a match but continually making inane mistake & doing zero homework - for example watched a clip on Tv the other week where the commentator constantly referred to Man UTD as MANCHESTER, It is amateurish behaviour such as this that allows the MLS & North American soccer in general to be ridiculed around the world - much to my disappointment.
The so called experts & color commentators on MLS coverage seem to have no clue about the game or do zero research, the only time a credible comment is made it is usually by an ex player.
I have heard this mentioned on world soccer daily 7 although I do not get to see much MLS at all, every time that I do it seems to be full of elementary mistakes & cringe worthy comments.
You deserve better Bob & America !

  6. This is awful, but I try not to pay much attention to Fox News.

On the "no research" front, the US broadcasters repeatedly called attention to Australian defender "Neil Lucas" during the last World Cup. Quality. They also put Julie Foudy in the studio for the coverage of Euro 2008. I guess the list of available candidates isn't very deep. At least all of the games were in HD.

  7. They are satirizing typical Fox commentary; no, they are not educated in terms of what is happening in real soccer, and that's not the point of their comedy. They are comedians, kinda like Fox's regular broadcasters, only in this case they're intending to be ridiculous. It's far worse when the "legitimate" sport broadcasters are dismissive soccer (see selection of Julie Foudy referenced above!!!!).

  8. Hey, I wanted to let you know that thje USA did an outstanding job in hosting the World Cup in 1994, what with American-football stadia and all like The Rose Bowl and the now-closed Pontiac Silverdome and demolished-and-rebuilt Stanford Stadium. While 2018 seems a long way off, the fans pretty much behaved themselves.

  9. American coverage of soccer is ridiculous. I think they should have guys like Nick Webster and Stephen Cohen do the annoucing, as they know what they are taking about and how to announce. Let the game do the talking! I hated Juile Foundry, she knew nothing. It was painful to watch. Usually ABC staffs the likes of Lalas, who is another joke of an announcer. Also, I don't care about what the player's wives were wearing last night at the newest trendy club, or some stupid fact. The last Galaxy game I saw where Beckham played (awhile ago) I was subjected to the abuse of having to deal with an announcer spend 5 minutes going on and on about how David Beckham looked professional resting his chin on his fist while on the sidelines. I really am tempted to tryout for a position. It is ridiculous. The Galaxy Broadcast have gotten so bad that I have resorted to watching (and I am enjoying) Seattle Sounders. Will somebody please find out their formula for great games and atmosphere. Finally, do your research! My brother knew more about the players during the Euro than most of the announcers, and he's only 19. When I heard somebody call Lahm an attacking winger, I nearly went crazy. Really? attacking winger? Please make it stop.

  10. Gulati's comment is so ridiculous and inappropriate, it's no wonder that the one attempt at "conservative" humour tried to parody the whole soccer thing. They actually didn't do too badly, gratuitous vulgarity notwithstanding.

I thought the comment about Madonna's uterus was much more damning than the soccer nonsense.

    Wretched show, in any case.
